Hi, I’m going there solo at the end of October and have limited time. Is it advisable to buy a ticket online to save time, or is buying one on the spot just fine? Thanks!

When we arrived around 9 AM, there were open windows at the ticket center with no waiting time.
Staying at hotel close to forbidden city and will take a taxi to the summer palace, worried I will have a problem getting a taxi back to my hotel. Not interested in booking a tour, but concerned about being stranded at the Summer palace at the end of the day. Any suggestions?

Avoid taking a taxi if at all possible, you will pay far too much and as a previous reply suggests, take all your details in Chinese. I travel to China regularly and when locals pay for a taxi, its much cheaper, when Westener's pay, very expensive. China also has Didi, Chinese Uber, they are better, but again you will need a local to book for you through their app and have all your details in local language. I have never used trains in China although it is supposed to be easier. I would suggest you ask reception at your hotel to organise a driver for you, will probably be Didi, maybe give them a small tip for their trouble. Also be very careful with pickpockets at Summer Palace, I was there in April 2019, our guide warned us about keeping wallets in your front pocket and ladies keeping handbags closed and across your shoulder.
