Amazingly, this museum is open 365 days a year, even Jan.1, and is free at all times. Only the special exhibits carry a surcharge and the two we saw were well worth it. Both were on photography. T… Full review by knowsnyc

How long does it take to view just the free sections of the museum?

Almost all of the museum is free. My guess is three hours minimum.

Not sure about the open time. It should be posted on the web site. We had tickets during the week when they were not busy and they allowed us to go in early.

We arrived early and were admitted without problem. Of course it was on a weekday when not many people were at the exhibit.
