Mayor Mark Dion urged residents to cooperate with legal orders saying, "Immigration law is lawful." However, he expressed concerns about the tactics being used by ICE.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement announced that the mass deportation effort in Maine, dubbed "Operation Catch of the Day," officially got underway Tuesday.

The enforcement action is arriving in Maine, a mostly rural state with about 1.4 million residents, as confrontations between ICE and demonstrators continue in Minnesota, where ICE is under scrutiny following an agent’s fatal shooting of Renee Good.

Agents followed the woman home after she dropped off a child at school, a daughter said.
