In the northern part of the Midlands, above the Interstate 20 corridor, a quarter inch of ice could form during the storm, according to a morning briefing issued by the National Weather Service. A small amount of a mix of sleet and snow could also build up on the ground in those areas — primarily on Friday afternoon and evening.

Light snow is expected to arrive in our area between 9 a.m. and noon on Friday. The snowfall becomes heavy Friday afternoon, spreading east and the roads start to become hazardous. Heavy snow begins to mix in with ice Friday afternoon in the southern part of the area and moves north.
