TAMPA — Over the last couple dozen years, as various stadium proposals rose and died, people would occasionally wonder what it would be like for the Rays to play outdoors on the Tampa side of town.

Today is opening day for the Tampa Bay Rays, and although it's a home opener, the Rays aren't playing at Tropicana Field. The Rays are utilizing the New York Yankees' spring training facility, Steinbrenner Field,

For the first time, a regular season Tampa Bay Rays game will be played in the city of Tampa when the team takes the field on Friday. They're playing their home games at Steinbrenner Field this year as the franchise faces an uncertain future.
