Verizon outage disrupts service across US

Verizon Communications said late on Wednesday it had restored mobile phone service and planned to offer affected consumers credits for a 10-hour outage that disrupted calls, texting and internet usage for hundreds of thousands of customers.
More than 150,000 Verizon customers are reporting outages on Wednesday, Jan. 14, according to Downdetector. As of 12:37 p.m. ET, roughly 157,596 customers have reported outages to the real-time tracking website.
Hundreds of thousands of Verizon cell phone users are without service on Wednesday afternoon, the company said. As of 1 p.m. DownDetector.com had compiled 460,000 user-generated reports, indicating widespread failure of mobile voice and data services. Most of those affected appeared to be in the eastern half of the U.S.
The cities with the most reported Verizon outages include: Charlotte, North Carolina. Ashburn, Virginia. Reports stated that 63% of users were experiencing mobile phone issues, 34% had no signal and 4% had mobile internet issues.
