Mayor Zohran Mamdani is a New York phenomenon, but his democratic socialist message has an audience far beyond the city’s five boroughs.

During the political pair’s surprisingly cordial meeting at the White House last month, which took place after the two publicly traded blows for weeks, the president seemingly marveled over Mamdani’s looks, according to a new Mamdani profile in New York Magazine.

Mr. Mamdani will become mayor of New York City on Thursday, carrying the hopes of the left, Muslims and younger voters as he looks to improve affordability.
