Myanmar Junta Says It Deported Over 50,000 Scam Centre Workers To China
Myanmar's ruling junta said Tuesday it had deported to China more than 50,000 people suspected of involvement in online scam operations since October 2023, as it made a rare call to neighbouring countries to intervene.
Myanmar sends 50,000 scam workers back to China
The deportations began in October 2023 and include foreigners who were trafficked and forced to work in scam centres, mainly along Myanmar’s borders. The scams target people online and include fake gambling schemes.
