Chinese President Xi Jinping has hailed his country’s technological progress in areas such as artificial intelligence and semiconductors.

The Chinese military says it dispatched air, navy and rocket troops to conduct joint military drills around Taiwan to warn against what it called separatist and “external interference” forces.

Taiwan's military detected 3 Chinese aircraft and 7 naval vessels on Sunday, with all planes crossing the median line. This follows a larger incursion on Saturday. Separately, Taiwan accused Beijing of political manipulation over a sea cable incident.

The imposed sanctions are largely symbolic, as American defense firms’ business with China is extremely limited.
