Mikaylah Williams led No. 5 LSU with 19 points as the Tigers struggled for almost three quarters before pulling away for an 87-61 win against Louisiana Tech in the Compete 4 Cause Classic.
The Lady Techsters were a national power under legendary coaches Sonja Hogg and Leon Barmore. Hogg guided them to a pair of national championships and more than 300 wins across nine seasons, then turned the program over to Barmore, who led them to another national title and 11 30-win campaigns. Hogg and Barmore were co-head coaches from 1982-85.
The Compete 4 Cause Classic transcends the boundaries of the basketball court. This event is designed to promote community engagement in New Orleans, allowing student-athletes to leverage their platforms for positive change. The focus on inspiring underrepresented youth in the area adds a layer of significance to the competition.
Saturday's win over Washington State extended LSU's record, which previously belonged to the 1982 Lousiana Tech team that Mulkey played on.
But because Mikaylah Williams helped them shake off that rough first quarter, the No. 5 Tigers (11-0) found their offensive groove and beat Louisiana Tech 87-64 in the Compete 4 Cause Classic, winning only the second game Kim Mulkey has ever coached against her alma mater.
Amid Flau'jae Johnson's stellar season with LSU, she opened up about her decision to return for a final year with the Tigers.
