The Baltimore Orioles acquired Alex Jackson from the New York Yankees on Sunday after Gary Sánchez became their fourth catcher on the injured list. Sánchez left Saturday night’s game against Atlanta with right knee pain and an MRI revealed a sprain.

However, with Gary Sanchez heading to the IL with a right knee sprain, the Orioles have announced they will be selecting the contract of Jackson, and he will wear No. 70 for the big league team. To make room, Baltimore transferred Jorge Mateo to the 60-day IL.

With four catchers out due to injury, the Orioles acquired minor league catcher Alex Jackson in a trade with the Yankees on Sunday and put Gary Sanchez on the IL.

One day after he was placed on the injured list with forearm tightness, it was determined that New York Yankees right-hander Clarke Schmidt likely will undergo Tommy John surgery.
