Mohammad Shehzad, alias Vijay Das (30), a Bangladeshi national, attempted to rob Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan's residence due to financial struggles. Reports suggest that he needed money to fund his mother's medical treatment and had lost a housekeeping job in December of the previous year,

According to the police, the accused had illegally entered India by crossing the Dawki River around seven months ago. After entering India, he had initially stayed in Bengal for a few weeks. He had even used the Aadhaar card of a local man to procure a SIM card before moving to Mumbai in search of a job.

Saif Ali Khan has returned home safely after being in the hospital for over five days, after his attack. The Mumbai Police managed to arrest the attacker Mohammad Shariful Islam Shehzad, alias Bijoy Das,
