Alongside her six-member cabinet, Highgate Elementary fifth grader Rosyln Fortin was inaugurated Monday as Vermont’s first kid governor.

Vermont's first-ever "kid governor" began her one-year term in office on Monday, following an inauguration ceremony at the Vermont State House in Montpelier. Roslyn Fortin of Highgate was sworn in along with members of her youth cabinet from around the state.

The city’s motion to dismiss argues that the state statute cited applies only to boards of civil authority and claims the Board for Registration of Voters is not one.

With just 11 months before Election Day, Vermont’s campaign trail remains quiet as potential candidates await Republican Gov. Phil Scott’s decision on whether to seek a sixth term.
