The Los Angeles Rams hit the field on Monday for their first padded practice of training camp, increasing the intensity and physicality as Week 1 approaches. It was a run-heavy day by design, Sean McVay said, which helped set the tone for practice moving forward.

The Rams have a timetable for quarterback Matthew Stafford’s recovery from a sore back, but Los Angeles coach Sean McVay does not plan on making it public to avoid the perception of a possible setback.

With Stafford sidelined, the Rams have been leaning on another veteran, 33-year-old Jimmy Garoppolo. Garoppolo, who has 64 starts across stints with the New England Patriots, San Francisco 49ers, Las Vegas Raiders and the Rams, has been leading the first-team offense throughout camp and would take the reins as QB1 if Stafford misses any time.
