Alien: Romulus director Fede Alvarez has revealed that the controversial CGI inclusion of the late Ian Holm, who died in 2020, has been "fixed" for the movie's home release. Set between the events of Alien and Aliens, Alien: Romulus follows a group of young colonists who encounter a Xenomorph when attempting to leave their mining colony.

After months of radio silence, Disney Plus has finally confirmed the date that Alien Romulus will hit streaming in the UK. Audiences outside of the US have been left waiting for months to watch the latest instalment in the long-running franchise to hit the platform.

Alien: Romulus” director Fede Álvarez said in an interview with Empire magazine that he understands why some viewers reacted negatively to the appearance of late actor Ian Holm in the film. Holm played the android Ash in Ridley Scott’s original “Alien” film and died in 2020 at 88 years old.

One of the few times filmmakers have got away with it is with Oliver Reed in Ridley Scott’s Gladiator. Reed died during filming, forcing the production to finish off his scenes with body doubles and CGI. And, 25 years on, the CGI reliant scenes are not actually too obvious.

"We just ran out of time in post-production to get it right," Fede Álvarez said of the theatrical cut. "We made it better for the release right now."
