LANSING, Mich. — A change to Michigan's Amber Alert System passed its house committee.

There's a new alert system for serious missing persons cases in the city called the "Emerald Alert" — a nod to the color of the iconic Spirit of Detroit statue, Detroit Police Chief Todd Bettison and Council President Mary Sheffield announced on Monday, Aug. 18.
