New York City public schools are moving one step closer to meeting a state mandate to have smaller class sizes.

Mayor Eric Adams did an about-face on the state’s controversial class size law Wednesday — announcing New York City will hire thousands of new teachers after saying for years that the mandate was unaffordable.

Trump has sought to impose his will on the city as his administration has revoked FEMA funds and moved to end congestion pricing, among other acts.

The Trump administration has canceled $188 million in federal grants meant to reimburse New York City for sheltering migrants, saying the money was being spent to support illegal immigration

The Federal Emergency Management Agency plans to revoke more than $180 million in grants from New York City, claiming the city’s program for sheltering migrants “is not consistent” with Department of Homeland Security policies.

US Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy is still evaluating his options for what to do if New York doesn’t shut down its controversial congestion pricing program later this month, a lawyer for the federal government told a judge.

The MTA and the Trump administration have reached an agreement that could keep New York City congestion pricing in place into the fall.
