David Corenswet's slightly puppyish Superman radiates a joy in what he's doing, but he’s far from invincible. That lends the film emotional stakes.

Reeve remains the quintessential Superman, but Corenswet provides audiences with the most likeable version since. Despite the film’s flaws, he and Gunn help make the Man of Steel a little more human, without denying the unwavering decency and heroism that have kept him soaring in the collective consciousness.

Fans are mere days away from seeing what James Gunn and the DC Universe have in store, and early word is super. Superman comes to theaters July 11, with early fan screenings happening July 8.
