Verizon outage impacts 90,000 customers across NY, TX, FL with SOS messages appearing. Company working to restore service quickly.

Many devices displayed an 'SOS' signal instead of usual cellular bars during the outage that impacted millions of Americans.

Many Verizon customers with iPhones had their devices go into “SOS mode,” which occurs when the cell phone is in an area with no cellular service. Others saw a “no service” icon. The locations with the most reports of outages include New York City, Brooklyn, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Dallas, Charlotte and Houston, according to Downdetector.

There were more than 130,000 incidents of people reporting issues with Verizon's services around 1:11 pm ET, according to Downdetector.

A major Verizon outage appeared to impact customers across the United States starting around noon ET on Wednesday. Calls to Verizon customers from other carriers may also be impacted.
