Haile Selassie I was in the United States from October 1 to October 14, 1963, during which he addressed the United Nations General Assembly on October 4, 1963 — the same historic speech that later inspired Bob Marley’s song “War.” This was Selassie’s second visit to the U.S. (the first was in 1954), and during the 1963 trip, he met with President John F.
