ACQUIRED NARCOLEPSY Great case series published as early view in JVIM by Koen Santifort et al. on eight dogs with acquired narcolepsy. Narcolepsy/cataplexy is a chronic sleep disorder characterised by excessive daytime sleepiness and cataplexy (sudden loss of muscle tone in response to emotional stimuli). Both familial and sporadic narcolepsy occur in dogs and both are associated with defective hypocretin/orexin neurotransmission. Animals with familial narcolepsy (typically Dobermanns, Labradors
