During the Kon-Tiki Expedition in 1947, the crew encountered waves that were reported to reach heights of up to 30–35 feet (9–11 meters) in the open Pacific Ocean. 🌊 Thor Heyerdahl and his team described some of these swells as massive, slow-moving rollers typical of the South Pacific sometimes so large that the raft would disappear from view in the troughs. Despite the size and power of the waves, the balsa wood raft handled them remarkably well, riding over rather than cutting through the wat
